FooteNotes: What's Happening at E.B. Foote Winery
.
We'd like to thank those of you who were able to come to the winery for our Red Wine & Chocolate event. We had three tables of chocolates, six red wines, and lots of happy customers. People discovered chocolates that were new to them and discovered lots of good chocolate/wine pairings. It was a successful event from our perspective and from what we heard from customers.
Jazz Night and Wine Tasting at the winery is Sunday, March 14th. Wayne Miller and Friends return to relax you with smooth jazz while you enjoy a sample of four wines and snacks. The door opens at 5:30 pm with wine and snacks, and the music is from 6 pm - 8 pm. Additional wine is available by the glass for $5 cash. Tickets are still only $10 each in advance, $12 at the door. (Wine Club members pay $9 each for tickets in advance, $12 at the door). You can get tickets by visiting the winery, calling the winery (206-242-3852) or on the Current Releases page of the winery website www.ebfootewinery.com. Last year this event sold out. Don't wait to get your tickets!
When Alzheimer's disease took my husband Rich, we learned a lot about the disease. It is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, and a new case is diagnosed every 70 seconds. There is promising research being done, but funding is needed. That's why I made the wine Remembrance, and I donate 50% of the purchase price to a particular research project headed up by Dr. Brian Kraemer. So far more than $29,000 has been donated. But more needs to be done. Here are two opportunities for you to make a difference in Alzheimer's research.
On Thursday, March 11th, the Alzheimer's Association is sponsoring a community breakfast at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Called "A Reason to Hope," the featured keynote speaker will be Elaine Jones, COO of the Allen Institute for Brain Science. Registration begins at 7 am, and the program and breakfast begin at 7:30 am. There is a $125 suggested donation. We plan to be there to hear the latest in brain research. If you are interested, contact Liz McNeil at 206-363-5500 or liz.mcneil@alz.org.
At the winery we have our "Step Into Spring and Stamp Out Alzheimer's" fundraising weekend March 18 - 21 where 10% of all sales will be donated to Alzheimer's for research. That's in addition to the 50% of the purchase price of Remembrance being donated. Any additional donations will be accepted, and envelopes will be available so visitors can make a donation directly to the Alzheimer's Association. The $5 tasting fee is applied toward a bottle purchase. (No tasting fee for Wine Club members) We'll have special prices on selected wines during the weekend. No reservations needed, just drop by during our extended hours.

Our Featured Wine of the Month for March is Rainy Day Red V. This Syrah/Cabernet blend has earned three Silver Medals, and has been a favorite of many of our customers. Regular price is $18.75, but as Wine of the Month it is 10% off or $16.90 a bottle (Wine Club price is $15.00). If you come for Jazz Night or Step Into Spring or anytime during March, we hope you'll take advantage of this special offer.
Wine Club Members: If you haven't picked up your January wine, we hope you'll be able to do so sometime during the month of March. Our storage space is limited, and we have another selection coming out in April. If you have no use for your 3-bottle box, please bring it in to the winery and we'll reuse it. Thanks!
Customers visiting the winery have been heard to say, "I wanted to come by to get some wine, but you were closed." Like many other small wineries, we have limited hours, but we are happy to arrange to be there when customers want to come in. If you want to get wine but the winery isn't open, give us a call and leave a message. We're at the winery quite often during the day, and we would be happy to call you back and meet you at the winery when you want to be there. Or if you know a day or two ahead of time when you want to come, we can make an appointment to meet you.
Remember our winery hours for wine tasting, wine purchases, Wine Club pick up, ticket purchases, etc. are:
Tuesday & Thursday 5 pm - 8 pm
Friday & Saturday 10 am - 4 pm
Also by appointment
